" I remember everything like it was yesterday "
I remember everything like it was yesterday. It was a few weeks after my mom’s birthday, and we were at the Louis Vuitton store for the third time that month. And no-no, not because we could make it rain, but because my mom was ready to take the plunge; to get her very first “splurge” handbag. But even if she was ready to splurge, she knew she wanted something that she can use for years; something timeless.
On our second visit, she fell in love with a PM Vernis Bellevue in Bleu Nuit, but after a small child-to-mother intervention about classic bags, she was able to narrow down her options*. This time, she had her eyes set on two timeless beauties: the Epi Speedy in a beautiful Cassis color, and the classic Monogram Alma.
" ...but for me, it was an awakening. An awakening to the world of fashion. "
The Speedy, though it’s one of the most classic Louis Vuitton bags, didn’t exude that timeless vibe we’ve been looking for. The Alma, on the other hand, with its structure, and an almost architectural curve was something that an older, elegant woman would wear. Finally, after finishing two teapots filled with Jasmine tea, countless mirror tests, mini fashion shows, and burning 3 hours at the same store, she finally took home the Alma.
Fast forward to February 2019, I bought this beautiful Epi Riviera bag** for my mom on a recent trip to a resale store in Tokyo. Though it might not be similar, buying this bag reminded me of those three hours we spent at the Louis Vuitton store almost 9 years ago.*** For some, it might seem like a typical “child shops with mom” story, but for me, it was an awakening. An awakening to the world of fashion.
*Love the bag (and that Bleu Nuit color!) but not timeless enough!
***Don’t worry, I didn’t spend 3 hours at the store this time. Thank god!
